Some Refreshing Statistics
In addition to statistically lowering your chance of getting a whole host of cancers, fresh juice also aids in the prevention of a number of other diseases, while contributing to some very important overall health factors in your life.
Cardiovascular disease:The Harvard School of Public Health conducted a long-term, 14-year study with 110,000 men and women, which proved with a fair degree of certainty that fresh produce drastically reduces your risk of heart disease. Study participants that ate 8 or more servings per day were 30% less likely to have a heart attack or stroke.14
Blood Pressure: The DASH study (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) found that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables significantly lowers your blood pressure – by as much as if the study participants had been taking a pressure-lowering medicine!15
Cholesterol: A National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute study found that people with a higher consumption of fruits and vegetables will have significantly lower levels of LDL cholesterol – the bad cholesterol that doctors are typically concerned with.16 While the reasons for this are not yet conclusive – whether it’s because you’re eating less meat and dairy to get more fruits and veggies, or if the fiber and phytonutrients in your produce can actually break down and reduce cholesterol – the evidence is telling.
Degenerative Vision: The AREDS (Age-Related Eye Disease) study found that a certain daily allowance of various vitamins, minerals and beta-carotene that occur naturally in fruit and vegetables can limit your chances of progressing to moderate or severe vision loss by up to 25%.17
